More about the cape…
Where did the cape come from again? One last side to my discussion on fear, etc. As I continue discussing this with people lately, it has become evident that the fear of success also has a lot to do with self-esteem. I am meeting a lot of people who struggle with these things, and it is rooted in their inability to believe in themselves. For whatever reason, and we all have many, the various ‘bullet-holes’ in our self-esteem leaves us weak to believe that we really can achieve or sustain or deserve success. How do we know if this is the case? Well self-esteem rears its head in many areas of life, so we can look around our lives a bit and find out if it is an issue. In our spiritual lives, it makes it hard for us to believe that we can overcome the little things that trip us up. It is hard to trust when we create barriers for ourselves. What if God seems to be leading us beyond those barriers, those places we don’t really believe exist for us?

2 commentsModern Men Fear the Cape
So, in like four different conversations in the past two weeks, I have made reference to someone’s behaviour reflecting a fear of success. Funny. My eyes are really being opened. For one person, I observed that a deep-rooted self-esteem issue was maybe causing them to run from commitments and from sticking through to doing something. I think that it was a by-product of the type of things DT discussed. It seems to be everywhere.
Forgive the apparent chauvinistic discussion from here on, ladies. I only know these things from a male perspective, I can only relate to men in these examples. It is not a big PromiseKeepers speech about men reclaiming their place etc etc.
I think today’s guy has lost the sense of responsibility that our parents and their parents etc once had. We discussed fear of success, and what specifically were the things that we are afraid of. I think the responsibility that goes with success, with fully embracing the thing you seek success in, that is too much to consider, and many of shrink from it. I see soooo many examples its crazy.
I think we will see a huge change in our society when this changes, when men learn to take responsibility again, to overcome that fear. Not because it will make us manly or because its our God given right, but because it is just the right thing to do. Society is splintering at many of the places where men have crumbled in this area.
Opinion over. Thots begin.
